MIDI-to-Computer

Alright, I don't know much about this, hence my not taking the time to search through the forums for it. I simply have no idea what to look for. But I know it's out there. I know there's a pick-up with MIDI abilities, but I'm not sure if it's what I'm looking for.
I want to be able to hook my bass or a guitar up to my computer and play into a program like Sibelius, to record exactly/close to what I am playing and write it out in notes. I know it's possible, but I don't know if I'm asking clear enough...as I said, I know very little about it.

Any information would be appreciated!

Search on midi bass and you'll get some answers. The short answer is look at these 2 roland products:
1) GK-2b (bass pickup)
2) GI-20 (midi interface, goes between your bass and midi soundbox which could be your computer)

That's what I use, works fine. Make sure you follow to the letter the directions on pickup installation, tracking is sensitive to the install.

Would you recommend it highly, or it just ok?
Basically would it be worth my money?

It's expensive though...

It is worth my money but I don't use it the way you are planning. I suspect it would fit your needs. There is a small amount of lag when I get in the low E range. Not too bad really, I play some really fast lines and don't often stumble over the lag. I think if you are just using it to transcribe on the fly it would fit the bill perfectly. That depends on your technique too though, midi bass is unforgiving of loose playing, no ringing of non-played notes, and you need to be pretty even touch/volume wise when using the system.

That's it, you can find 'em cheaper if you are patient and watch ebay. Get the GK-2b though, not the GK-3b, it is cheaper and works better with the GI-20. I've read various forum postings that you need a firmware update to even use the GK-3b with the GI-20.
