MIDI controller/keyboard recommendation?

Sign in to disble this ad
I never used to see the point in them, but the more i fanny about with recording, the more i see times where they could have been used.

Ive already got a controller for when mastering and such, but i dont have anything keyboard like.

Are Edirol a half decent make? I was looking at the PC-50 they make.

Cheers!

I like/have used the CME stuff, and also the Novation controllers.
I'm not a fan of the M-audio stuff. I have no experience with the Edirol stuff.

How many keys are you looking for? Do you want just simple keys, or are you looking for advanced features like multiple pads/sliders/transport controlls ect?

Price range as well.

Im not sure how many keys exactly, been lingering about the 49 mark, will need to measure, because if a 61 key one would fit in the space ive got, id probably spend the bit extra for it.

Wanting to keep it under £100, so there isnt much exotic (or much at all i dont think) in there, but id prefer to buy second hand.

Will look into CME and Novation

Cheers

Lots of questions. What program do you want to use it for? How many keys are you gonna need? Weighted or not? How many extra knobs and faders do you need?

If you are going to be playing both hands youll need more keys. I use mine mostly for bass synths so a short board with unweighted keys is fine. They dont impart any sort of tone into the signal so really any decent brand will be ok, its all about feel.

Im aware they wont have any effect on tone, just really not sure what brands are good and what ones will stop working a month down the line

i'd like to be able to use both hands at times, going to be using it for pretty much everything from laying drum tracks on EZDrummer to piano modelers to synths. (the latter two i dont have anything really as of yet, just a few demos, just looking around).

Weighted keys would be nice, however im suspecting that'll cost quite a bit more?

Extra knobs and faders hopefully wont be a problem as i recently bought one of these:

cheers!

Just had a very quick look around.

There is a cheaper CME one, semi-weighted, 49 keys. £50-ish (new). Only thing im not totally keen on is the modulation wheel is above the keys as opposed to beside them.

Shall keep looking, but it does look like a strong contendor
