Midi Question?

Sign in to disble this ad
Is Midi Program Change Message the same as Midi Note Message.

I'm just wondering if I can control a sampler (Roland SP-404SX...pads receive midi note) with something like a foot controller that sends midi program change.

Just thinking about triggering sequences live via a foot controller while playing bass. We can't find a keyboard player.

No , program change and note On/off message are two different beasts.

I do this with my Roland FC300.That's the reason I bought this one , to trig samples in Mach5II.
It has the ability to send note On/Off message on top of Program change , CC , etc...
All controllers are not created equal.

Also some hardware/sortware have "learn" fonction, maybe you can assign a CC for note On/off (??)

or there are these kind of options if you have a lot of stuff to trig;

Go check out what PGmusic.com has been up to with Band In a Box
this with a foot controller of your choice, even just a USB type foot pedal for stenography.
And possibly midi-ox or bome's midi translator and you'll be set with keyboards, strings, ...

Is there any delay before the samples play?

Looks like a FC300 is the thing I'm looking for (...or a Behringer FCB1010).

Thanks!

Before buying the FC300 , I've checked the Behringer but it doesn't send Note On/Off like the FC300. Only program change and CC.
(Edit; Check it out , there is a firmware update on the 1010 maybe now it can, not sure )

Later , I bought the VB99 and was really happy to have the FC300 but that is another subject!

I was trigging songs Intros and special FX , my drummer was trigging FX with an Octopad. When the latency on the CPU set to minimal , the latency was hard to tell , even for my drummer.

Have to have a powerfull CPU to do so......but you have hardware sampler , so , no latency here.

It seems like the Behringer FCB1010 is now claiming to support Midi Note On message. I'll have to check it out more.
