MIDI -> USB ... how does it work?

Hey ppl.

dont know if this is the best place to post this at, so MODS, if you think it'll be better someplace else, feel free to relocate it.

Here's the thing... me and a friend both bought these USB - MIDI (in/out)

now, I've got a Boss GT6b and he's got one of those rack mounted pod pro's.

I havent had time to try mine out yet.

he seems to be having a bit of trouble getting his to work...

now, were not sure if its got something to do with the software that he's using (from line 6)
or if its some sort of configuration problem...

do you guys know what needs to be done in order to be able to edit patches on these 2 things?

if it has a direct usb connection, the cable itself should be able to convert midi signals to something that the pc should be able to use right? so it would only be a matter of the software... (the product page says that the cable IS the interface...)

Yes, the cable is the interface. Your software accesses the interface just as it would if it were physically inside the computer, and the interface does all the MIDI talking.

Does your Line 6 software have a place where you can select which MIDI interface to use (e.g. You'd select "Yamaha UX16" if that's what your cable was named)? My first guess would be that the software is attempting to talk to the wrong MIDI interface.

Yeah, it should register as a possible MIDI interface, so when you set up the Line 6 software, you should be able to select that from a list.
