You'll have to tell us exactly what mixer you're talking about.

LoL! I really need to update my profile with this basic info.

It is a PreSonus FireBox mixer, that came with the package.

It is just software, not a physical mixer.

You'll have to excuse me, I'm in the process of sobering up still

There's a button on the mixer called "Bypass"

I click it and it gets louder.

The Firebox is an interface not a mixer. Are you talking about playing the audio file outside of your recording software?

Sorry , the firebox came with a program called "Firebox Mixer".

It looks like a mixer, with volume levels outputs.

So even if it's just an interface (?), why does it get louder when I bypass it.....is just using it drawing some signal?

What your"Bypassing" is the volume control labled "software" I'm guessing your playing an audio file and using monitor speakers when this happens so.....

Click MAIN and the volume control on the presonus mixer takes control slide it up and down and see, then whe you bypass it, the slider on whatever software you're playing the audio file on takes control.
