Mixer question

I was wondering.

Is the Soundcraft Spirit Folio F1 a good mixer for recording?
How much does it go around these days?

they're ok, a bit of a rep for being noisey (preamp colourisation wise) , Ive recorded on one a few times and I wouldnt rush to use one again, if you're looking at the 16 channel one, then for the same price you could get a second hand mackie 1604 or a new 1402, which IMO are allot nicer sounding. get the vlz-pro rather than vlz version if you can, really nice preamps, really clean. I know the mackie sound isnt for everyone but in this price bracket i'd hasten to say they perform like mixers a good deal more expensive!

In addition to the Mackie boards

I also recommend the Allen and Heath Mix Wizard offerings. My 16 v3 board is pristine, and the A/H preamps are some of the best out there.

just .02,
Jay

Don't know a thing about the F1, but when comparing the 1604s to the Mix Wiz, remember that you need direct outs for each channel you want to record to do multi-track recording. The 1604 offers 8, the Mix Wiz has 16.

So if you have a 16-track format recorder AND you want to record more than 8 tracks at a time... I'd lean towards the A&H, not to mention those preamps

Of course, I found my Soundtracs Topaz8 used for less than the Mix Wiz goes for new. Nothing like a true 24/8/2 format analog board...

the mackie 1604 vlz-pro has 16 inserts, which you can use, 1 click, as direct outs, so essentially they have 16 direct outs!
