Looking at getting a mp3 recorder to take board mixes of live gigs if possible. I've done the minidisc route in the past with decent results, but it is too much of a pain to dump MD format onto the computer in real time to do all the editing/etc. Would be much easier to dump it already in mp3 format.
Anyone experienced with a MP3 recorder for this use? Any suggestions on a model to get?

I used to record some of our gigs...it came out nice, even with my lame Philips MP3 player/recorder. I highly recommend you NOT get a Philips HD MP3 player/recorder...the software and firmware really suck.

My dad just got this for $400 at GC.
It mounts itself as an external hard drive, so you just plug in, drag and drop.
Plus, it's PHANTOM POWER enabled. You could use condensers to record the show.

Somebody correct me if I'm mistaken, but the iPod is just not working. The input is just not able to handle signals. There is a gadget out there, the ikey, with this you should be able to connect any USB storage (even the iPod) device and record your stuff directly into mp3 format, but the iPod is just not doing the job....... damn, but I loves me pod....
Jens
BTW, for questioners, we allready tried the belkin and griffin input solutions, not worth the bucks! Good for voice recordings, no singing though, only memo's. Any new ideas, glad to listen...

| | | I'm really liking the iFP-799. Works great for recording MP3 straight off the board. Actually I just use a splitter on my headphone feed and run the other stereo line into the iFP-799, works like a charm and it only cost $140. The quality is better than I expected. I can get over 8 hours of recording at 256kbps quality.
Here's a link where I talk a bit more about it (post 24 & 26): MP3 recorder for rehearsals and concerts
If you want to spend more, and be able to record in WAV format, and have level control on-the-fly, that M-Audio one looks really good. |

Im looking into an iRiver H340, it should be able to do the same, but its quite pricey
