need help converting .mov files

Sign in to disble this ad
My wife recorded the gig my praise band played on Sunday night using our digital camera, unfortunately it was in 640*480 resolution in Quick Time (.mov) format. The files are too large and long to put onto YouTube or my Photobucket, so I can't share them. Does anybody know of any free software that I can use to either chop up the files (most are 2 or 3 song segues) and/or use to downsize them to 320*480 resolution. Again, they're .mov format, which I figure is going to severely limit my options, but any help would be appreciated

First question, are you on Mac or PC? If you're on Mac, you can use iMovie to chop these up and output @ 320 x 480 no problem. If you're on PC, try using this free program to convert the .mov to .avi then use Windows Movie Maker to edit your movies.

If you're on a Macintosh computer, you can do it with iMovie. Import it and then export it as whatever you like.
If you're on Windoze, I don't really know of any free software, but you could buy Quicktime Pro from Apple. That'll let you do lots of useful things, including converting videos this way and that. (I assume - at least it works that way on my Mac. But then again, things that I expect to work on Windows sometimes doesn't.)

Edit: Obviously I am not typing fast enough.

Have you checked hitsquad.com?

There's probably something there that could help.
