Need help with recording setup

Hey guys, a little help with this would be appreciated. I recently purchased an Sm57 microphone to amplify my acoustic guitar and also record bass/guitar with instead of using my computer mic. So I bought a xlr-1/4 converter and I hooked that up to a 1/4-microphone jack converter and put that in the mic/line in port on my computer.

The problem is I'm hardly getting any sort of signal and what I do get has way to much bass and is very quiet. I've recorded going just 1/4 into the converter into line in but not with the xlr involved. Any advice guys?
