The New Logic Pro/Express 8

I read an article in EQ magazine about the new version of Logic (8.0). The reviewer hyped on the fact that it was phenominally more user friendly than earlier versions of Logic (I have express 7.0 and many of the key commands are tough to find and identify). And the price is hard to argue with-$499 for pro and $199 for express. There are some more pros and cons of course, but I was just wondering if anyone here has gotten the change to try it out yet, and if so, what did you think?

It's good, buy it! For $500, or $199 for Express, it's even a good price for all the plug-ins and synths you will get, including a good bass amp emulator. --Kent

i use it at college and find it is much easier than 7 sorta like a merge of garageband and logic 7. the hardest thing i found was remembering the small differences between 7 and 8 such as where to find a particular option.

for me, a first time logic user, I had no problems picking it up and using it, I wouldn't call it intuitive however most of what you're going to use is on the main recording screen.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go with express. I already have 7, so I can get the upgrade edition on ebay for around $80 or so.

I use Logic Pro 8 and I love it. It has so many capabilities, it is pretty intimidating at first. Once you start getting used to it, it really really grows on you. I think I still only understand a small percentage of the entire application but I already can't live without it.

Here are a couple links that may help.
This guy is truly the Logic Ninja. He shows you how to do some amazing stuff.

I wrote a description of how to display and modify bass tab on Logic. Some steps aren't well documented:
How to configure Logic Express or Logic Pro to display bass tab

One more tip: for me, the 8.0.1 update seemed to introduce more bugs than it fixed. Back up version 8.0 before you update; you may want to go back.

we use logic at my studio, the bunker, along with 2" analog and RADAR hard disk multitracks... it gets used the least of the 3 formats, but i like it.

logic is great, really flexible, and has great plugins... the editing is much better in this revision... but the plugs are really the best part, i think... delay designer, space designer, the eqs, and echo are all amazing... as are the soft synths.

the export functions make it sooo easy to be easily compatible with other DAWs.

cheers,
john
