No level in the box! Help, I´m stupid!

I apologize for my stupidity. I´m completely helpless when it comes to recording. I can´t get a good level in the Presonus firebox. I´m using Cubase LE. When I´m importing a song it has good level. But when I´m start to play with the song there is barely any level from my bass. Even if I´m going with my active bass into the active mic 2 on the firebox the level is 50% of it´s capacity. I have pushed on every button in cubase and the firebox mixer, but it won´t work.

Any ideas? I know I´m stupid when it come to this, but it must be some setting in the software i don´t know.

im not familiar with your daws, but i know you can controll you input and out put volume by double clicking your volume icon. you might just need to adjust your mic input volume. -joep

In cubase? I´m double clicking and nothing happens.

I'm just starting to play with Cubase LE that came with my Zoom B2.1u. I can't seen to get any volume out of it either. I've tried recording with my input level all the way up and bass and effects levels all the way up and it still comes out VERY low when I play it back I can increase the volume in the mixer until pins out meters but it's just barely loud enough to hear through headphones. If I convert the track to a .wav file, it also comes out with very little volume as well

I love the B2.1u but I'm not at all impressed with Cubase. Is this a case of getting what I paid for??

What does the "bouncing bar" look like in Cubase while you are sending notes to a given track? It should be lively. If you signal is strong at the mixer/input side, that bar should be hopping when you "add audio track"...or midi, as the case might be. If that bar is responding, its you output volume, pull down the "mixer" (in "Devices" box at top of screen) and see how that is set. I had a similar problem early on, and discovered that my moniotrs were not turned up . Let us know what's happening.

I can adjust the input levels so that that bouncing bars are at the top of the range. No matter what I try, I can only get a limited volume to the headphones. The output of the B2.1u isn't exactly strong through the headphones either, not even close to my iPod. I even re-calibrated the volume pedal. Any controls that I found in Cubase that have to do with gain or volume raises the volume like the slides in the mixer. Anything above about 75% and it sounds overdriven and breaking up...........but still at a very low audible volume.

In Cubase there are 3 places on the mixer that will affect your bass volume. On the left are your inputs, that needs to be at a good level. In the middle is the volume for your bass track, that also needs to be at a good level. On the right is the volume for your master output, again it needs to be at a good level. If you're not getting good volume at your input, you may need a DI/preamp.

I had a friend look over my setup yesterday. The output from the Zoom is LOW. He suggested I return it and get a Bass POD. I really like the the Zoom effects and sound better. This is becoming a pain in the BUTT

Cubase is a fantastic program, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I am using a Firewire 410 at home and have not experienced any problems with volume.

I don't know that you need to return the Zoom. If you don't mind spending a little more money you can get something like the toneport GX or UX1, just run from your bass into the Zoom and then out into the toneport. Should solve your level issues.

Ya.........The toneport will be this weekends project.

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, 64 ohm. I just picked them up at GC.

I had the same problem. It turns out that you need to start one the applications that come with the the firebox, the "firebox mixer," before you can record thru the firebox. Not sure why, but once I open this program, I'm able to record thru the firebox with any daw (I use either Garageband or Logic Pro). Hope this helps.
