| | He's Sumthin, Alright.. | | Join Date: Jan 2003 Location: Bucks County, PA | | Ok, so WAV files are HUGE. I can't email. HELP!! In essence, I suck.
I have the option to record in either WAV format or MP3 format with my recorder, and since it said how great WAV was, stupid me recorded our practice in WAV. Great! Or so I thought.
I edited, cut, and was all ready to go. I had the headphones on, I felt like Mutt Lange! Now to email these gems.
Soooo.. each file is a gazzzzillion MB's and I can't email, even in compressed file.
So here is where I am:
1) Future practices will be recorded in MP3. Lesson learned.
2) How in the hell to I send these MONSTER files?? Can I change on the fly from WAV to MP3? I am not mastering an album here, just sending misc crap from practice. Is there a free tool that can assist? Simpel "save as"?
As always, someone else's expertise and knowledge is greatly appreciated.
DB

I prefer FLAC personally, WAV files are just too big for me with my limited hard-drive space. Also you can compress the files in a WinRAR archive to save space. |

Open file.
Convert to MP3.
Save.
Email.
You will probably have to make individual files of each number rather one file of the practice. A long recording will be too big for email even in MP3.

As for editing from a huge single file, just highlight the area you want and export selection to mp3. It will just convert that section.

I have Wavelab LE - I would have to imagine that this conversion tool is there as well.. One would think!
I just have in the office on a mini drive and figured I would fiddle with here.

I am running Ubuntu so this is for me a drag-and drop in a folder. There is also Windows integration, but i don't know how good it is.
Dropbox is another possibility.
Advantage is that you retain the high quality of wav files |

You just left out the squash it down afterwards part. How far you squash it depends on how you want to use or move it around. There's tons of free stuff out there for that. Go get ya some!
Your media player doesn't allow you to rip and convert a .wav?
odd

| | | | Many of the above,
Breaks the files up into parts for separate emails.
Try 7zip to compress them (it's not audio compression)
burn it on a CD or thumb drive and mail it - around here 1 to 2 days top to arrive.

If you have iTunes, it will convert to AAC when importing, if you check the box. AAC > MP3.

DB | Try CDex to convert between formats. Free. Lots of options available.
You can use, for free, Audacity as a basic editor to load your wav and select and chop into pieces.
CDex will do that for you too, but you have to specify the time to start and stop.
Then use Dropbox to share the files.

odd | Assume it does.. Also assume it's me. LOL
I will check WaveLab, I am sure it does! That said, I found Koyote Soft Mp3 converter - it was free, is pretty cool, and better yet, it actually worked.
Since recording in WAV is preferred, and I found this tool, and I gather it MUST be somewhere on the WaveLab platform, I should be good. Incidentally, you guys all ROCK. I really appreciate all of everyone's insight and info.

IIRC, you can do a "render as" and pick MP3. I think there are at least one or two other ways to get there too though. |

Thanks again.
