Hey,

Ive been mixing bands on the live scene in melbourne for about a year now and a studio assistant for about the same time and im just getting my home studio up at the moment.

I personally dont like digidesign and pro tools because they limit everything. And for the price you pay i dont see it being a fair amount.

But pro tools is probably the best software that is on the market to track with and edit audio. I dont personally that it is the best for tracking.

I would wait abit on the mini. Ive heard from alot of people i work with that they are having trouble with its asio drivers and a few other kinks.

Id wait myself until they get it down pat or buy the normal Mbox 2.

Also EMU have a few good options hell alot cheaper and way better sampling rate so if your recording at home itll sound alot better then most Mbox users.

All the specs of the Mbox2 Mini look the same as the original Mbox. Find one used for about half the price.

^ good idea. i have an orginal mbox. has always worked great. a good piece of kit for the price. you lose flexibility due to digi's propietary scheme. but having the mbox hardware and the protools software for a fairly low price is a good deal.

The only thing I didn't like about my (original) mBox is that in order to use the software, the box had to be attached. So, if I record in my basement then want to edit somewhere else, I need to take the mBox with me.

This kind of defeated the whole "portable with a laptop" scene. I've since started using Garageband with a Presonus interface. The quality is good enough for me and it's super portable.

that's true leon. the idea of the mbox as a dongle that needs to be attached is silly, and reduces a lot of flexibility with a portable rig. that is a drawback. (that drove me to using an onyx mixer with FW card by the way). but as i said it is a good deal. the preamps on the mbox are good and pt le is a great program.
