Hey, I want to be able to record my bass, and I've got this computer but no idea how to make an MP3... Do I use the computer's soundcard, get an adapter and plug the bass straight into the mic input then record with Windoze Sound Recorder? Will that be good enough for a demo?

Should I even bother looking at the FAQ?

Folks - please consider doing a quick search on this forum (search box at the top right of the page) and/or check through a few likely looking posts before posting your "recording newbie" question. There are several threads running at present addressing more or less the same issue (recording bass / band demo's into your PC). You'll get more out of the forum by joining existing discussions and the resulting threads can be easily referenced from within the FAQ. The FAQ also contains some useful background info for complete beginners... Please check it out and if you have any questions or comments on its content (i.e. if it doesn't answer your needs), please let me know.

All of these threads are about recording into PC's or laptops (within the last 3 months).
