Preamp Recommendation

Sign in to disble this ad
I know we're all bass players and that's what we mostly record, but i'm sure there's several of us that record other instruments and vocals. So what i'm looking for is a reccomendation for a vocal preamp, $500 or less, and i'm looking for it to add warmth/color. I'm not looking for a clear/transparent preamp like the grace for example. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Groove Tubes Brick is pretty cool.

Maybe the Neve clone kits from 7th Circle Audio.

I think my G/T Bricks are pretty cool too but both of mine seem to be fairly clean and uncolored .
Out of my outboard mic pre's, I definitely consider my Joe Meek TwinQ the most colored. Mines a very nice two channel pre that seems to work well with most all sources, but its way beond your budget. I believe they offer a single channel equivalent that might just be what your seeking.

I'm a big fan of the medium-end ART gear. The Tube MP is a flaming turd, but the MPA Gold is a solid pre with some nice colour.

I was looking at those, do you know what the difference between that and the 110 is?
