 Problem with Alesis Multimix 12 Firewire

We've had this mixer for about a year, and it was really amazing to be able to record multitracks of all of our sessions. Unfortunately, it stopped showing up as a firewire device on any computer that we hooked it up to. Just not connecting at all. The wire and computer are fine, it works perfectly and instantly with an external HDD.
The mixer works completely on the analog side, but that's just stereo.
The warranty on the mixer has expired, and Alesis doesn't do out-of-warranty repairs.
Has anyone else had this issue with this mixer and gotten it resolved? Is there some easy soldering work I could do to fix it? Should I send it away? How much can I expect the damage to be if I do that? Is it worth fixing?
