I've had four MBoxes sitting in my cupboard since December waiting for this update, and was very concerned that Digi would end up charging me for an update from 7.3 to 7.42. They were actually really cool about it (after I called customer service and sat on hold for 30 minutes...but hey, they've been doing that for the last 10 years): They emailed me activation codes for each software upgrade and I've got the for iMacs up and running.

A brief preliminary review of LE on Leopard: stable, straight forward, user interface is very similar to earlier versions. Using the direct out from my AI Contra I into the mic (xlr) input of one of the MBoxes, I got a very nice, clean, warm, growly sound. I still need to bring my near-field monitors from home to get a sense of the sound output, but through two different sets of Audio Technica phones (one about 20 years old, one about 8) the sound was great.

If I get a chance I'll try a simple cabinet micing (Eden 210xlt) with a Shure sm87 to see what the results are. I sold off all of my high-end studio mics a long time ago, but this setup will probably still do well. I'll probably try the Eden wt400 (10+ years) direct out as well.

Yup, so far so good.

A note: install your 3rd party plugins BEFORE loading your previous sessions.

I installed the base SW, then loaded my old PC sessions (which set all the 3rd party plugins inactive). I was impatient .

After I installed the plugins, I tried to activate the plugin instances and it didn't like that. I could remove them and add new ones no problem though so I just did that.

I am floored by the performance increase (PC: Pentium4 2.4GHz w/ 1GB RAM to iMac: 2.8GHz CoreDuo w/ 2GB RAM). It used to take ~20sec to load on my PC and the CPU monitor would be about 1/2 on a decently busy session.

Now, it loads in about ~2sec, and barely registers on the CPU meter

Of course, a new PC would also show similar gains but hey, I'm still in the "honeymoon period" with my new iMac.

Hey, I haven't run PTLE since the early version 6's on a Win XP 1.8 Ghz AMD computer. It was nice and stable, but I know what you mean by getting bogged down.

It's nice to see that the newer computers are coming standard now with the beef necessary to run pro tools. Just up the ram and it's good to go. Any Windows issues aside, I think either platform's hardware will work well now.
