Quick Question-Solo Bass Recording

I've done a bit of a searching, and have found that the feedback (literally) on some Analog to Digital (1/4 to 1/8 or USB) has been pretty poor.

That, combined with the fact that I aim to record presentable music (obviously not studio quality, but a quality not embarrasing to put on MySpace, let's say), makes me think I should spring for more than $40 or $60 bucks and get a small interface and some software.

Would this give me the tone (I'm playing a Zon Fretless, unprocessed- I love my tone already) and quality that I want?

Jared

P.S. I feel I should include that I don't believe I have an actual soundcard (Intel integrated or something), but that should be inconsequential, right? It's a USB interface.

correct, USB/Firewire doesn't need a PCI card installed.

if you're just recording yourself like you say, then you could get something cheaper than a MoblePre. the Jamlab or the Fastrack would suffice.

I've used the fastrack for a couple of years now, and I find it very easy to use and gives me good tone and very little if no latency.

You can check out the tone quality on the My Music in my sig. All of them but 5000 days was recorded using the Fastrack.
