I'm looking to recording some very basic basslines with the bass pod xt live into ableton. Would I have to buy an external soundcard or could I hook it straight up to laptop? Thanks. Ps be gentle. I'm a noob.

I have the BAss POD XT pro.. I can record directly into my computer with it using the USB cable out and into my Computers USB.
Just download the Line6 drivers.. Your Apelton should pick it up..
I use a MOTO to interface on one machine and the Presonus Fire Studio.. But you can use the PODs USB port......

I also have a Bass POD XT Live. Have recorded many tracks just plugging into laptop's USB and using Audacity. You have to download the drivers and set the POD as your sound unit, instead of your laptop's soundcard. You can also use the USB connection as an "aux input".

The was only one issue I've noticed: my laptop isn't that "powerful", so there's a little delay on the recorded tracks.

Are you monitoring through your POD? That's the best way not to get any delay.

Yeap! I do that... I tried to use the sound output from the laptop to monitor my playing, and I noticed a strong delay. And also noticed that when recording with a click track.

You should be listening to your bass through the Pod, not your computer. Plug the analog output into your amp, and listen to the song from the computer speakers.
