Recording Bass-Do I need an A/D converter?

Sign in to disble this ad
I need to get the best possible bass sound into my protools 001 (I'm working more and more via the internet) -I'm about to buy an avalon u5 di, to feed one pt input and also output to my gallien krueger 400RB with palmer PDI-03 speaker simulator to feed another pt input and record the result at 24bit. I'm really happy with my bass tone but need to know if you guys would recommend also using an external AD converter?
I know it can really help with more delicate/detailed material, but am I going to miss something bass-wise if I don't go that route?
Many thanks. James.

BTW-I just joined this place-extremely cool.

wow- sorry, can't answer your query, but recognised your name and checked your profile-
funnily enough I was playing the bassline to The the's "jealous of youth" yesterday- don't know if you played on the studio recording, but I've got an old clip from Rapido of the song being played live circa. 1991/92 that you're in.

welcome to the board

I guess you'll be fine for now without external converters.
