Recording in college...

Hey all,

I'm going off to college this fall (Georgia Tech) and I'm interested in recording some solo stuff I'll be working on in my free time. Right now, I have a Korg Pandora PX5D that I use to record into my PC. But for college, I'm probably going to be getting a Mac. I was wondering if it would be possible to use my Pandora to record into Garageband. I have the cd which has all the necessary drivers and such so I don't think I'll have any issues there. My only concern is if Garageband will be compatible with my pandora.

Also, i'm interested in a good keyboard to use with garageband. any suggestions?

I don't have any advice to give as I am in the same boat (heading to college and want to use my new macbook to record schtuff) and i am quite curious to see some suggestions.

the Pandoras box works great with a Mac. and as far as keyboards are you talking actual keyboards or MIDI controllers?

A MIDI controller I guess. Those can emulate any instrument in garageband correct?

Here's my suggestion. Assuming you're in a dorm then the compact footprint is a plus. An all in one solution like that is the best thing for that sort of situation. Plus the reviews on that one are pretty good. Pair that with the software of your choice and you have a good recording setup for the restrictions that one might face.

Of course the Pandora isn't bad and I can see not wanting to get rid of it so that's more of a suggestion for anyone else in that situation. Just look for something that isn't bulky and you aren't worried about damage with.

the toneport is kinda iffy in a live situation I heard. as long as you don't bang it around, it should work fine.

That's what i'm worried about. I'll be in a college dorm where it's more or less a given that people will mess with your stuff. So I'd rather have something a bit sturdier.

Well if you'll be using a lot of software, I like my http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...ler?sku=703044 and never had problems with friends in the dorm screwing with it. As long as your friends aren't ******** you should be fine.

But those M-audio keyboards you posted are fine too.
