recording a good DI sound???

My band is recording some demos. The guitar player and I both use pods and the drummer is using e drums. We are all going direct into a korg dx 16.

I'm finding that I like my tone through my practice 30 watt amp, and my bose setup, but when when I go DI into the korg and then mix the bass down to the level it should be volume wise, it just sounds like it falls short.

Does anyone have any tips for recording DI with a bass pod xt live?

right now I leave my out put all the way up and just pad the channel to keep it under control. I eq'd some of the bass out out of the other instruments so there wouldn't be any difficulty hearing the bass. It's more the actual tone, it just sounds much more growly and brighter when it's through the other things than the monitors.

I'd start by ditching the approach of padding the input. A resistive pad can be a real tone suck device. Set the input sensitivity down the middle and adjust the output volume so that you get a good dynamic range on the track without clipping.

My advice: bypass the POD. Use a good DI into a good preamp.

Do you use the Mic and Cab emulations in your BOD? If so, turn them off or try new ones. Those emulations often lead to boominess when used for recording. Especially with some of the default patches in the BOD Live. I spend a lot of time tweaking my BOD to get the sounds I like when recording, but once you figure some of that out, you can get some fantastic recorded tones out of it.

Another question that comes to mind is, are you using the DI out or the Model out for your recording? The DI is a dry signal and doesn't carry the modeled sound. An undocumented feature of the BOD is if you plug something into the Headphone Jack, you'll get the modeled sound through the DI.

Thanks. I've made a couple of patches that I like through my amp, and my bose set up. But, I don't quite care for them as much through the korg recorder over the monitors. I'll try the same patches without the mic and cabs on, I have noticed the boominess you are talking about.
