Recording Guitar in Cubase

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got Cubase and I try record some distort rhythm guitar but it always sound crap in the mix ........... i try many different settings etc but no luck.

Trying to get that classic rock guitar sound. Nice loud sustain note.

I've got Guitar Rig 4 which is a software guitar effect and a Boss GX700 rack effect.

Couldn't get any decent guitar sound at all .......

hey badboy... you need to be more specific with your request for help, sorry.
To me, asking Cubase questions in a forum is a scary thing, for explanation in texto may be endless...
most important: can you record anything in good quality at all or is everything messed up (that'd be soundcard or pre...) or do you have a great clean sound and need advice on effect settings...?
Using mic or line in to record...
i could go on - no offense meant, just hate seeing posts unanswered.

I finally got Cubase to work with my Boss GT10B as the external sound card. My goal for the weekend is to tweak the settings so I can get a good, clean sound first. I would also suggest you start there (achieving a good dry tone) before starting with the FX.

If the original recording is good, then adding the FX should be relatively easy. If the original recording is boogered, it'll be hard to troubleshoot where the problem is once the FX are added.

do you have an interface/preamp or are you plugging right into your built in soundcard? Gotta have an interface if you want a good sound. It will NEVER sound good direct in to the built in soundcard.

I don't use build in pc soundcard. I use Inspire Firewire Interface, Studio Monitor etc.

The sound I'm capturing is clean because Guitar rig 4 record it clean so i can tweak setting after. Everything sound decent in the mix (of course no studio quality) like vocal, bass, drum (play by ezdrummer), clean electric guitar and mic acoustic. The problem I'm having is because I'm a bass player and i don't have nice guitar amp to mic so i using guitar rig 4 as my effects for distortion guitar.

the outcome is i can tweak it to make it heard in the mix but the tone is either harsh, clanky, trebly or very thin even with layering. I cut the bass and treble and boost mid already. Taking the mid out will make it muff or lost in the mix.
