RECORDING HUMMMM

Sign in to disble this ad
OK guys as you can probably tell by the all caps. I'm a little mad that after just shelling out some cash my recordings still have hum in them. I'm using the M-Audio Fast Track Ultra with Cakewalk by roland. I'm running through an EQ on the program as well as a compressor that seems to work fine. Is it possibly the form of cord that i'm using? Do cords really make that much of a difference? Other electronic interference possibly? A loose wire in my bass? Please I'm considering all possibilities, but what have you guys had as far as experience with this in the past? Thanks appreciate it TB guys forever can't live without em!

Also, is there a better way to use mixers with recording(I know there is but I don't know how >_<) Could I run my bass through a mixer then through the computer? Or is there a better way to mix down frequencies? Also, besides the audio interface are there other external devices that should be used in order to optimize recording? For bass? THANKS!

Honestly, I'd start at the bass & go from there. Plug in your bass without anything in between and see if there's hum. If there is, pick up another bass and see if that bass has hum. If not, add your next pedal or whatever ot the chain and isolate the source.

What are the pickups (single coil or humbuckers)?

How are they blended?

Is the noise there when you touch the strings?

Null the controls on the bass.

If there's still noise, it's not the bass. If there isn't, it is the bass.

Easy.
