Recording with an interface

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys I'm thinking about getting the Lexicon Alpha interface, but was wondering if I could just plug my passive bass straight into it without using an amp because my amp does not have a line out and I don't want to mic up my amp. So, would it sound alright not using an amp? I'm not going to use a DI either because it has a Hi-Z instrument input, so I don't think it's needed. Also this interface is USB powered and I'm wondering how I could find out if my USB port will power it. My computer is a brand new hp and I'm thinking most USB ports are able to power things like this but I'm not sure. Any help is much appreciated!

Depending on the power needs of you device, the USB signal is sufficient for powering it and communicating between the device and your computer. In your case, it was designed to be powered by USB.

Yes, you can plug-in directly to the device BUT the pre-amp is only for the microphone input which means the that your signal is going to sound like total ass by the time it gets recorded. If your going to do it this way put a VT bass or sans amp in the chain before you hit the interface.

My recommendation is to NOT get this interface and get Mackie Onyx Satellite instead. They are close in price, the mackie has great pre-amps and ok converters. It can be a stay in place or portable recording device and Firewire is far superior.
