Recording on laptop

Sign in to disble this ad
So I have a Boss BR-864, but lately it has been acting strange (and also it is very hard to transfer songs to the computer), so I have decided that recording on the computer makes a lot more sense. The only problem is that I do not have a clue on how to do it. My question then is, what is the easiest way to record to your computer, and can someone explain to me how computer recording works? I have about 200 dollars to spend on it, and i dont want to spend any more then i have to. Thanks.

What kind of computer do you have? I have a Mac laptop and the software GarageBand came installed on it. The only thing I needed to get was a Griffin guitar cable to plug into the laptop.

I actually don't have a laptop, I've been saving up for one for a while now, but I plan on getting one with windows on it.

You can do a search here and on the web for free or cheap recording software (like Audacity) There are lots out there to choose from. Then you will need an interface or guitar cable like I have to plug into the computer (doesnt matter if its a laptop or tower). The cable I have worked out great for me and was only 25 bucks.

can you give me a link to an interface or a guitar cable that plugs into the computer? Also, what do you reccommend I should look for in a laptop if I am going to be using it for recording?
