Recording with Mbox

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, i'm looking into buying an Mbox with Protools LE to do some home recording with my bass.

Bit of a noob at this so I thought I'd ask what I'll need for it. Obviously, the Mbox and a computer to plug into.

Was wondering what the best (and also affordable) way to do it is.

Was considering either:

1. Direct from the bass if this is possible and using a plugin to simulate the amp.

2. Play through the amp and direct out from the amp into the Mbox. Amp is a GK 1001 RB

3. Purchasing a mic, was looking at a SM57 and close micing the cab.

Anyone have any opinions on any of these 3 methods?

And also, what equipment would i need for each method?

Cheers in advance

Hi, I'll give a stab on helping you out.

Yes you can plug directly into the Mbox.

You can take the D.I. out of your amp into the Mbox also.

As for buying a mic for close micing the cab the SM57 will do fine and is useful for nearly everything else.

All you need is your bass and your Mbox and a couple of jack and XLR leads depending on how you want to record.

Hope that helps.

I have a mbox mini 2, I'm guessing that the setup is similar. I would go with plugging straight in and seeing how that sounds, wait on the mic until you feel you need it. I've had decent results with my mbox. Its usually a good idea to cut out some of the high end frequency to remove static and fret noise.

Cool, thanks for the help guys. Is a DI from the bass to the mbox and also from the amp to the mbox a line level signal?
