I was wanting to learn how to record my own bassline solo type stuff on my computer, but dont what I would need to get to do this. I dont want to have to buy much to do this cause I havent alot of money. What would you all recommend to do this? Something cheap but also for really good quality recording. I was looking at those Line6 basspod things but I wasnt sure if those were recording things, maybe im wrong, but would you have to buy a software to go with something like Line6?
Thanks for any help.
Alex

Also, if you do not already have a recording program, an easy one to use and just happens to be free is Audacity (Google It). To hear what a recording sounds like with this set-up, click the link in my signature and listen to Vertigo or Lost Girl.
Hope This Helps. |

Hope This Helps. | Sounds pretty cool man. So if I downloaded that Audacity program could I just get one of those Pods to record through onto that program? Or is there a way just to run my bass in my comp.???? Would it sound as good if I did?

Active will be very low and thin. YOu need something to amplify the signal before it goes into the computer. I Do not recommend going from your amp to your computer for this, though. You could overload your soundcard. M-Audio makes a great interface for this that I used on the other tracks. |

Also works with Pro Tools m-powered ($299 list) http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/JamLab-main.html

Cannot record dirctly to these. Boss makes some good multi track recorders that run $400 - $800 Wondered about these when they came out. Will they handle a bass signal, and how do the amp model sound for bass? |

Seems like you can get EQ with the included software...usually bass doesn't need much else; other effects can be added after recording . Anybody tried one? I'm curious too.
As for recording without the computer, the Zoom PS-04 is a pretty good thing; runs on batteries and has built-in drum tracks. Also has effects. After recording, you upload the stuff to a PC and convert to WAV files (or plug the Smartmedia card into a card reader). Free conversion software on the web site. I have this and have used it for this purpose. Standalone, you can do a lot with it, including recording drums, bass, guitar, etc one at a time and then playing it all back mixed together. |

Interestingly, Pro Tools M-powered works with all the previously mentioned boxes AND the Jamlab. It goes for $299 list; I think you can probably buy it for less. This way, you'd end up with a pro-quality recording setup on your computer. |
