Recording on PC / newb

Sign in to disble this ad
Sorry if this has been covered ad naseum but this is my 1st time into this forum and I know that technology changes quickly.

I'm looking for a USB interface that i can use to record and come w/software. I have nothing at this point. I plan to record on a PC and would like the capability to record w/mics (57 or 58). ...uhh....not sure about Midi...I don't have anything midi but don't want to 'miss it' in the future.
this will likely be one instrument/mic at a time. I don't have firewire.

This is a beginner setup...Hopefully less than $200 USD.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to Talkbass! You've come to the right place, there are a lot of cool people here with a TON of information!

I use one of these:

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com...-PF?sku=250003

http://line6.com/podstudioux1/

It's an AWESOME setup for the price. It's got the USB interface, has inputs for guitar/bass, mic (with mic gain knob), and 1/4" line inputs. It also comes with the Podfarm software, which is pretty sweet... a bunch of stompbox/amp gear in software form. I've got a few of the pedals they've modeled and they've actually done a really good job modeling them.

You can only record one track at a time, but that's definitely all I need at home. It's also a great way to practice, I just run through headphones and I don't piss off my roommates/neighbors.

I'm VERY happy with it for the money! Go to my Bandmix page in my sig and check out the three "Original Idea" tracks... I recorded all the parts through the Pod. (Drum machine and keyboard go to a mixer, mixer goes 1/4" stereo line to the Pod).

I'm REALLY happy with the Pod... probably one of the best purchases I've ever made.

5sg.

I've been looking at the Tascam US-122MKII it's around $130 and comes with cubase, supplies phantom power and has midi inputs.
