Recording question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all.
My friend sent me an MP3 cd of his piano playing tunes.

I wanted to take the track and add my bass.

I have no idea what program (is there freeware?) that will allow me to do this.

My work MAC has garage band---can this do it? Can I take the MP3 off the disc and add to it my bass?

thanks for any help

sure, just create a real instrument track in garageband and copy/drag the MP3 to that track.

then you can create another real instrument track and record bass.

Will it combine the two?

Also, I just noticed my mac has no input for a mic; just one for headphones, but it has 2 USB ports.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Try Audacity. Works really well for this type of recording. You can import the MP3 into the program, play it back and record at the same time, then mix the two together.

sorry this thread got lost in the shuffle.

yeah, garageband supports multi-tracking. if you create two tracks they will play at the same time. from there i usually Export/Share to iTunes to be converted into an MP3 (sidenote: when will GB support directly exporting to MP3? gah!)

i am guessing you have an iMac then? it has firewire and USB and you can use something like this for not a lot of money:

Here is some info on how to get them to work:
