Recording with the RH450 digital out

Sign in to disble this ad
looking for folks who have a clue about recording and/or the RH450 head. I am not one of them.

The RH450 is a champ, and I've started to dabble with recording...simply to hear and critique my playing. Audiophile quality is not necessary but I like to have the best quality possible obviously.

I've had some success with audacity, and the RH450 line out piped straight into my sound card mic input. I fire up a tune I'm working on in audacity, play along and record myself, and then play back my performance. There's a little distortion on the lower notes, but overall this is acceptable.

I'm curious about giving the RH450's digital out a shot. My assumption is that this will output exactly what your typical USB audio interface would output...bunch of 1's and 0's?...am I correct in that assumption?

If that's right, what kind of cable is needed? The digital out is XLR just like the line out. I'm guessing an XLR to USB would do the trick?

And then I'm hoping I can get Audacity to capture that input .

Any thoughts/pointers would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!

HA! google helped me find this one:

Digital out on the RH450. Anyone use it?

that clears things up a bit...sounds like an audio interface is still necessary...let me know if you disagree
