Recording solobass

Hi,

I don't have much experience in recording my bass with my PC, So I have a couple of questions and I need some good advice.

I composed some solobass-compositions and I've recorded them on my PC yet.
I used a Soundblaster Live soundcard and experimented with different software like: Music Cleaning lab, Goldwave, Cool edit 2000. I can also use Cubase vst 32 but I haven't tried this out yet.
The result is acceptable for me, but I wonder if I replace my Soundblaster live soundcard for a Midiman Delta (Audiophile)soundcard (or other),would this,considering that it's only solo-bass,give me a significant improved audible result?
and what is the best software to get the best
audible result?
Final question: I plugged in directly in my soundcard (line-in)only using a Zoom 506 effect processor to give the stereo output.
Do I have to use an amp with a line-out to get better results or only a mixer(or both)?

In my experience the Audiophile sounds audibly better than the SBLive, also the drivers are much more stable than the CL drivers.
When you use Cubase you'll love the Audiophile's ASIO 2.0 drivers.

I can use the 8ms on my PIII 800 and it's ROCKsolid, I could even use lower settings, but 8 ms is ok so far.

Hey man, a while ago I did that thing too with ZOOM506 directly to soundcard, a cheapo soundblaster, well it's okay but seemed too artificial to me, besides ZOOM adds bunch of noise when you use couple of processors. Then I sold that box and these days just take the sound from my practice amps line-out, put it through EQ & Compressor and stick it in the line-in of the card. I use Cool Edit Pro, which I think is an invention of geniuses... Sounds great to me. I would think that anything better than soundblaster would give you more headroom in getting that signal recorded. Good luck.

Thanks for your answer,
I'll try it out with an amp without using the Zoom-box; I think it's to noisy too.I own a Peavey amp (top), but I didn't notice the line-out, Are there other outputs I can use?
I don't have compression or EQ to prepare the incoming sound.
and what soundcard do you use at this moment?

I'm using Soundblaster AWE32, I think. :-) Try the headphones output, maybe that'll do it. Good luck.

Yesterday I tried to take the line out from the headphones and to the sound card... it sucked! Hope it works out for you.
