Recording straight to a computer...

I searched around and didn't find exactly what I was looking for, so I decided to make this thread.

I am looking to record directly to my computers (desktop and laptop), but I am unsure how. I know there's a number of ways, but I'm looking for the cheapest/easiest method. I don't have any recording gear as of now, so I don't want to buy a huge studio to record my bass!

I've been watching Jason Matthews' videos for a while, and he seems to have a pretty easy way of recording.

Quote from Jason, "I run through an old Korg AX1B processor straight into my soundcard, and video and sound are synced in Windows Movie Maker."

What are some other simple options? I'm looking to run directly into my sound card like Jason, but what can I use aside from that specific Korg processor?

I'm pretty new to this, so if I'm asking stupid questions, don't shoot! I've recorded a few EPs with bands before, but I've never recorded myself.

Thanks,

Josh

Get a 1/4in to 1/8in adapter and run into your sound card, then Download audacity(free). Cheapest way i can think of.

I use a cheap Behringer mixer and a Behringer usb interface to record on my computer. The software I use is Kristal which is free.

The mixer was $60 and the interface was $30 on musiciansfriend
