Recording through a Bass POD

Sign in to disble this ad
OK, I'm not exactly sure where this thread should go, but this seems close enough.

So, I'm recording through a Bass POD which goes to a soundcard (the name eludes me). Both basses that I use are active - Tune TBJ51 and Ibanez ATK300. I've been playing live with the POD for quite some time, and never really had any issues with it. When I plugged in to record, however, there appeared to be some nasty overdrive - not the good kind either. It's not the soundcard, not the speakers, not the cables, not even the output level either. Apparently the puny digital convertor of the POD cannot hande the output from the bass ?!. After trying for quite some time to figure out what's going on, going through the POD manuals to look for any way to control input level, lowering the PUs etc., I had to resort to lowering the volume from the volume knob of the bass. This did the trick, but is no long-term solution. Has anybody had this problem? Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hmmm... I've never had any issues with overdriving the POD input from a active bass. I've had both the original Bass POD and the XT Live and used them both with a number of active and passive basses.

Are you monitoring it from your computer when this is happneing? What happens when you have headphones plugged in to the POD... is it distorted there too? Sounds to me more like the POD is too hot for your soundcard, not the bass output overdriving your POD. Lowering the level on your bass would fix the situation in either case.

One questions comes to mind, are you plugged into your line input or the mic input on your sound card?
When I used to record my bass pod through the mic input, there would sometimes be distortion. When I used the line input, this worked much better and gave me a cleaner recording.
You might want to check which input you are using and see if it works better with the line input.

I actually record using the usb. I use adobe audition and it recognizes it as a input device and i can record from that. It works really well and can use adobe audition to alter the input volume as well. Seems to work well.
