Recording through XLR direct out

I'm using a GK MB112 and I tried to connect the amp to my Tascam DP-008 (multi-track recorder) through the XLR direct out and the recorder did not pick up the bass. So I tried from the headphones out put on the amp to the recorder and still nothing. What am I doing wrong? Is this even possible? I tried out the headphones with the amp, that works fine, just doesn't work when connecting to the recorder.

if the headphone out works then the simple answer is that the mic lead is dodgy. if this isn't the case then it must be something internally with the amp. what that could be i don't know, a loose connection maybe?

then it might be something on the recorder. sorry if this is sound condescending, is there a switch or something that you change for mic and line? if so it could be that you need to change the setting for that. i've just had a look at your recorder and it must be in a menu. try with a mic and if that works then its the amp.

Have you recorded before with the Tascam?
Try with a different cable if that doesn't work, please post the steps you're following in order to record maybe you're setting something wrong in the Tascam Multitracker.

Yeah, I tried switching to "line". Still no signal. I've recorded before through a cheap combo. I just did bass>amp>recorder. It worked with the cheap combo and not with the mb112

Yes, I've recorded many times with the Tascam. I'm basically connecting my bass to the amp, then using the direct out on the amp to connect to the recorders inputs. This was done using an XLR cable. Next I tried bass>amp>headphone out> recorder and still no signal. Using 2 different 1/4" cables. Both attempts were with different cables.

Is your XLR cable 'balanced' or 'unblanced'? It might require the opposite. This might be your problem.

Are you going to the XLR input on the Tascam, or the 1/4" jack? (I'm assuming it has both.) If the latter, you're bypassing the mic pre, and the signal might not be strong enough for that. Even then, if you tried the DI on the amp in "line" mode, it should work, so the bad cable theory is as likely as any.
