Recording w/ Adobe Audition...tracks not syncing up well.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I recently got the original version of Adobe Audition from a buddy of mine and I have been working on recording some material on my computer, but I am having a major problem. When I use the multitrack screen and attempt to do just that (multitrack...), the tracks dont sync up. I've tried using prerecorded drumbeats/loops from adobe's software, I've layed in keyboards, keyboard-drums, etc...and the tracks are always out of sync once you play them back. It seems that after recording a new track, that "block" is not set at "zero"...it'll start a couple milliseconds late or so, but it wont be in sync. If you take that block and move it to the zero point, the tracks still aren't in sync. The only way I can get the tracks to sync up is by zooming in a ridiculous amount, setting a line or cue point in the track and lining the tracks up manually....for example, I'll have to find the beginning of the wave form for a bass note and the beginning of the wave form for it's relative kick-drum beat (or what have you) and match them up based on the "cue line" i put in the track. But this is problematic especially if I'm playing something where the given bass line, chords, drum beats, etc..aren't all right on top of each other. The only way I can think to do it at this point is to have a lead in on every track with, say a 4-hit "count off" and make sure every instrument hits exactly on the 4 or whatever and then use that as a reference point to line everything up. (if that makes any sort of sense...it does in my confused and agitated mind at 1:30 AM)

ANy help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I've never had tha problem. hmmm. Perhaps you've got some latency issues, check all your settings and stuff.

Sounds like a latency issue to me. I hate that. Ya gotta tweak your HD and soundcard settings. It's been ages since I've had to do that so I'm not the best source for info.

I used their reccomended technique for calculating the 'latency' and it seems to be about 40 to 50 milliseconds off. It's closer now, but I can't calculate it to a specific number.

Also, when I record track A, and then press stop to end the recording, it appears as if the whole block shifts left...its a minute amount, but you can definately see the waveform transform/shift a bit once you press stop...in addition to this, if I record a sedon track and stop that, and then zoom in on the beginning (0.0 sec) point on the multitrack screen, the blocks don't start on 0.0. (though, shifting them both over to the zero point doesn't help...they are still off.)

Thanks for the responses so far...at this point I'm just recording tracks and lining them up manually. It works, but it's kind of a pain in the arse.

40 to 50 ms is a whooooole lot of latency.

My setup runs at 4ms latency.

What kind of soundcard are you using?

i used to have that problem with too slow of a processor. Check that, also if the soundcard is USB usually there is a bit if latency with that.

What is you the specs of your pc?

If you want to record with your pc, check this web site:
www.musicxp.net

And do everything they told you. It will be much better! Might cure your problem

I also use audition, it's a great program. I really like it.
