| You need an audio interface that converts audio input to data, and you need recording software. If the interface only has an XLR input, then you need a DI to convert your bass signal to balanced XLR. If you are just using the audio interface built into your computer, then it may only have a 1/8" jack, and it may be mono or stereo. Also it may be designed for signal levels that are very different than the output straight from your bass. So it might work in some cases, but generally it is reasonable to think you might need a preamp of some kind to bring your bass signal into the optimal range for the built-in audio interface. If you buy an external interface they will typically have some sort of preamp built in. |
