Repairing Headphones (HOUSTON, TX)?

Sign in to disble this ad
Last year I bought a nice new set of Sennheiser headphones, the nice-to-use-for-recording variety.

Shortly thereafter, my cat took a liking to the jack-cord, and chewed it off right at the cans for me. Nice kitty!

Anyway, they were "only" about $120 or so at GC, but I hate to just throw them away when all that's the matter is, the cord's chewed off (the cat-saliva has long since evaporated).

I'd try to repair them myself, but I really don't have the time or talent, and I'd probably just waste my time and the headphones, too.

I went to Sennheiser's website, and could find only an email link for "technical questions." Never got a reply, and I kinda doubt that paying for sending 'em there and back, plus the repair, would be cost-effective anyway.

Any suggestions for whom I might go to in the Houston, Texas area to get these fixed? Or generally, who repairs stuff like this anymore? No such thing as "TV/Audio repair" as a going business anymore, from what I have seen.

I would think that anyone with some soldering skills should be able to do it for you...solder those wires back together and a layer or two of shrink tubing and it would be pretty well back to bizniz.

Had almost the same thing happen to me with my own Sennheisers. Problem is, headphone cables are notoriously thin and fragile. It's VERY hard to strip away enough bare wire to work withhout cutting the metal. I gave up and replaced mine. Good luck.

Put an add in craig's list saying you're looking for someone to repair these.
Search the list for stereo and amplifier repair. There's usually a few ol' timers looking for something to do. Oh - and don't go alone.

Great idea, hadn't thought of that.

Aren't the cables on Sennheiser headphones replaceable? On mine they are, I bought an extra cable at b&h photo video.

Okay, problem solved! You were right, the cable apparently IS replaceable, and I've ordered the new cable! Man, how easy was it at the end?

(Better'n some of my problems, for sure).

I'm glad your problem was fixed rather easy
