Simple Mixer

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking to get a simple mixer, something to do some home recording with, and use for small shows.

Right now I'm looking at the following:

Nady MM-141. - Bare bones of what I need. (7.71 overall on MF from 7 people)

Behringer UB1002FX - Highest rated, (9.67 on MF only 3 people though) but I don't need all the effects.

Behringer UB1202 - What I like the most. (8.74 on MF from 121 people, plus 50 reviews, nearly all positive).

Nady SRM-10X - Current runner up. (9.00 but only from 3 people).

What do you think would be my best bet? Sadly I don't have a ton of money to spend on a better mixer, and time is running out. I have a small private party/outside gig on the 30th. I'm only looking to run the vocals through it at the gig, but would like to put more stuff through it later on as necessary. Any tips would be much appreciated.

I had the 1204FX Pro, and it ran great until I sold it. It was overkill for what I needed a mixer for. The FX we're not terribly useful, but the unit was very sound.

I have used two Behringer mixers in the past and they have worked well; no real problems to speak of and quiet enough. They are a solid investment for the money, but just don't expect it to sound like a Mackie.

Good luck!

own the 1202 myself, works great, quiet enough for simple use. i'm only using 2 of the 12 possible, so it's barely getting used.

Take a look at the Yamaha MG series. Better quality than the Behringer.

The 1202 has an aux send for effects (reverb on vocals for example)

The 1204 has an aux send for effects and an aux send for monitors.

If you want a mixer for a live gig, having a monitor mix is important. Whether you want to pay more to get this feature is up to you. I had it on my last mixer, and I miss it on my current one.

I ended up going for a new UB1202FX off eBay since every online store was out of the UB1202 and it was only a $5 difference between the two on the Bay. But I got a call a few hours later telling me that they didn't have any in stock, nor would they be getting any till probably October. This wouldn't work since I need it for the 30th. So I talked to the guy and explained the situation, he worked with me and is sending me a UB1204 for the same price.

+1 on the Yamaha MG series. Used one last year for a seasonal gig
6 weekends in a row th-sun. Used the 16 ch model with every input in use nightly. Held up fine. It will go through it's second season soon.

I use a Yamaha 16/6FX mixer for recording, and it's been great. I haven't yet used it live, but I'm sure it would hold up well. It's $380 on MF, but I got mine used at GC for $200.
