TerraTec DMX 6Fire opinions?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a fresh copy of the Bug magazine, one of the more prominent computer publications here in Croatia. One of the main topics this time around was on 5.1 sound-cards, both el cheapo ones and semi-professionals.

Among them, I noticed the little gem from the thread title. It has ASIO support, it has a dedicated instrument jack, looks solidly built, and I figure it would do finely as both a DI box and a higher-quality soundcard than... whatever it is in this laptop. Part of me thinks that's reason enough to shell out 200€ for it.

Has anyone else tried it out yet? Any opinions?

I had one when I was a PC user and it was a great card. However if I am right in understanding you are intending to use this on a laptop it will be no good to you as it is an internal PCI card and drive bay breakout box intended for desktop PC's only.

Terratex do make a number of similar external units design for laptop use that use USB2 or firewire that would work wonderfully.

Actually, if I understood the site right... The box is a standalone USB 2.0 unit, a replacement for what used to be an internal PCI card with an external box.

Apologies, I didn't look at the link you posted.

That should work fine for you, I didn't realise they had made a USB version!
