Is there a windows based equivalent to Garage Band?

Looking for some software that is similar to Garage band that runs on a PC. I want to create simple tunes and build basslines to add to them. I need a simple, easy-to-use software. I appreciate any recommendations? I have seen Band-in-a-box and was not impressed.

Peace

Right now, I'm jumping back and forth between Acid 4 (for editing) and Sonar 4 for multi-tracking.

I think the newer Acid may have improved recording facility, and the New Sonar may suck less for editing. It would be ideal not to have to hop between two programs.

Also, Sound Forge is now Multi-track, and part of the Sony Acid suite of programs. It may integrate better w/Acid than my current Sonar/Acid workaround.

Now, I haven't spent much time in Garage Band, but I understand it's a pared down version of Logic Audio...right?

Well, that's Cakewalk...which is who makes Sonar. That looks like the pared-down version of Sonar, with a bit more guitar-centric bias.

I'm using Nuendo right now and really like it. It's a bit pricey. And probably has a lot of unnecessary "bells & whistles"- from what you are describing.
Have you looked at other Steinberg products? Cubase?

Mackie Tracktion is pretty easy to use and it's not too expensive either.

This is what we have been using to record lately and it does a very good job.

MixCraft by Acoustica is normally compared to GarageBand. I have it and it is pretty good.
