If it's just recording, you can use Android

There's a few other options
But a small recorder like h2n, is a good investment for just recording

Zoom has a good line of products.

Tascam, Sony and others have equivalent products. If you want to plug a 1/4" patch cord straight in to the recorder, it does focus your choices, as only a few units allow that.

Ok...that Irig looks like what I'm needing. Everything is always for Apple. lol Thanks

There is a device that is similar to the iRig that can be used for Android as well, since it just goes into the 1/8" headphone jack on every phone.

I highly recommend the Zoom h4n. That thing has been super handy for me, as it does double duty, as a standalone device and an on-the-go audio interface.

Zoom H2 recorder is pretty amazing for the money.
