compressor or a setup. I know you said that it sounds normal through your amp recording really brings out every nuance of your bass. A compressor would most likely fix everything though.

well we use compression on just about everything, we use some different comression plugins that came with protools, and we got a rack compressor, so i do compress my tone/signal already. any other suggestions?

The Sansamp BDDI/RBI really help to even out the string to string
volume spikes on my recorded bass tracks.

could be that your pickup just sucks. I saw that you have a cort and a washburn bass. While these are good basses they do cut corners and the first place they will cut corners is the pickups. Getting a new pickup may fix your problem unless your having the exact same problem with more than one bass.

Are you sure it's your bass setup, rather than your monitoring system? I bet if you threw some bass traps in your corners then you wouldn't have the same problem.

The best way of knowing where the problems is is to first play your bass thru a bass rig, with all the controls on your bass flat. And the Eq on the amp flat as well. If there is a large difference from string to string, than its probably your setup/pickup. It it sounds fine then I would look into your monitoring system and even your room acoustics. You will not believe how much room modes will affect low end. Have you noticed any notes kind of disapearing when you are in the control room?? If that is the case, you most likely have some serious room modes to deal with.

If you have active electronics set all you eq's to flat. I have had this happen with a few different guys that had the bass cranked.
