Using vst effects on bass?

Hey guys,

Having difficulty in understanding what I have to do to get the VST effects I have chosen being played, whilst I'm playing my bass.

I have my bass plugged into the line in port, can just hear it. When I open VSTHost and open up "Slayer 2" and choose my the effect I want, I play notes on my bass but the effect doesn't come into force, yet when I use my PC keyboard it plays the effect.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on what I should be doing?

I would try the vsthost forums: http://forum.hermannseib.com/

But maybe click on the "Engine" menu and make sure "Audio Thru" is not checked.
And right click on the plugin and pick "Assign Input Channels" and make sure it's getting its input from a channel you think it should.

Sounds like you're trying to record into your onboard sound card. You probably need to get at least a single channel recording interface if you want a good sound.

You should be able to use the onboard soundcard but there is usually a little latency associated with it.

What are you using to host the plugin? ahh right VSThost! I'm afraid I don't have any experience with that, it looks good though

Do any other effects work?

Also, you said "yet when I use my PC keyboard it plays the effect" -- are you sure you're using the effects-only version of Slayer 2, because if it's the VSTi instrument, it's not going to work.
