What USB Soundcard to use?
Ok, so I tried the Steinberg CI-1 and it's a nice little device for recording.
I do a lot of chatting online with friends and only have 1 pair of headphones. So, I figured I'd plug my headset into the Headphone jack & the mic into the Line 2 input jack (and then set the CI-1 to my default card). As soon as I did this & started playing, everyone on my voice chat could hear my bass. -_- Not good, considering I want to be able to use it as my main sound card.
For those who will ask "Why not just run your mic to your PC's mic port and set the capture device for your voice chat to be the specific mic port?" The answer is that the cord is nowhere near long enough to reach from on top of my desk with the CI-1 was sitting, to the back of my tower.
So, I need a card that is configured to have Windows distinguish between line 1 & line 2. This way, Line 1 can be my bass, and Line 2 can be used for my headset mic without the 2 being merged into 1 by Windows.
Manufacturer's pages are pretty much useless for finding this kind of info, as they don't go into depth on the features of the drivers. They really only talk about the ports on the device and the included software.
