It is easy to use, much like analog and records beautifully. It has phantom power for condensor mics but I'm getting great results with regular dynamic. You can bounce tracks if you need more, when you finish, you make a stereo master which is easily transfered to your pc for further editing and/or cd burning. The large drive holds dozens of songs. I shopped around. Tascam is easy to use, great features and quality and built to last.

Multiple/simultaneous inputs are good. Built-in effects are not necessary. Something that is reliable and easy to use. |

A lap top is still the best way. can;t get around it. but if I had to choose I'd find a used ADAT. ADAT's had a bit of a vibe to them w/ their convertors. A bit of mojo if you will. I imagine they can be had cheap on the used market these days . . . |

At one time they were a great step up from the cassette based options in the same price range but they really are pretty nasty sounding.
You know all those cheap 90's project studio recordings that sound like an ice pick stabbing you repeatedly in the ear drum? That is the sound of the Mackie VLZ micamp plugged in to an ADAT. |

Personally I can't imagine tracking on anything but a computer w/ a mouse and keyboard. I'm new school. Just my way . . . |
