Will this get me recording on my computer?

M-Audio - FastTrack USB Instrument and Effects Hub

Or is there a better option?

I will be running Audacity or Reaper. When I do this now, I get a 'delay' in whatever I'm recording. So I plug my bass directly in via 1/4' to 1/8" or I've used the 1/4" to USB adapter and it's the same thing.

I'd hate to go back to the 4 track cassette , so any help is appreciated!

Yes it will. Yes there is. Reaper is 50X what audacity is...i would suggest this!

You are experiencing latency, which is an unfortunate and inevitable downside to digital recording. This could be because of your USB port, even 2.0 can be inconsistant or, in the case of going line in...your computer just cannot process the amount of information your are sending it quickly enough. You might need to adjust your buffer size in whatever program you are using.

Do a search for latency!
