Question Wireless headphones... Thoughts? Recommendations?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks.
I'm after some good practice cans and am considering going wireless. More time playing music.... less time getting tangled in the furniture.... but if it comes at the cost of sound quality then fergettaboudit.

Anyone have experience, recommendations?

I had the same idea a couple of months ago, but an audiophile friend of mine who knows way more about this kind of stuff than i do told me that any kind of wireless system will cut off some top and bottom end to the signal and color the sound overall. Like I said, I don't have personal experience, but he was convincing enough at the time to stop me from whipping out my credit card.

every pair of wireless headphones i have ever used has sounded a little off, i much prefer a good set of wired cans.

These work fine for this guy, and wireless! You want $100 set or audiophile quality, can't help you there.

Wireless

Personally I don't think that they are worth it for the money. If you want decent quality you will be paying big bucks.

yeah with a great pair of wireless headphones a huge amount of the money you are spending is on the receiver/transmitter so the phones themselves are less good for the money, also bear in mind that even the BEST receiver transmitter you can buy is NOT as good as a straight wire. And theres not a chance you will be getting headphones with the best receiver/transmitter you can get!

So I'd stay away unless convenience vastly out weighs sound quality!

As for the comment about wireless monitoring, they are very expensive systems normally, but even then they don't sound great to listen to music in a quiet environment on. they are designed as monitors in stage-environments where being loud and clear enough to perform is the focus. In that situation the benefit of wireless outweighs the fidelity you loose, as you probably wouldn't notice anyway when you are on stage etc! The sort of headphones you use at home, even good ones, would not work as stage monitors, they are different beasts!

Agree wireless sucks big time. I got some Sennheiser mid level, good reviews, thought I was gonna be playing wire/tangle free and happy, instead, was extremely upset. Couldn't even hear my bass!! Sounded like those 1980 walkmans. And it falls off everytime you lean forward. Try playing while trying to keep your head perfectly vertical. Not good.

Returned them, got me a pair of wired Sony mdr-v6's, still waiting but I'm sure I'll get the low end response.

Yeah I was wondering about the Sennheiser RS 130's. They seem to be the only ones that get even close to a positive review.
Think I'l stick to wires.... for the rest of this decade anyway
