Alright, well here are my three options for units to purchase to use for recording.

1. Aguilar DB900
2. Aguilar DB659
3. Avalon U5

Which do you recommend and why?

In what environment?

I guess they're all in the same league, so it boils down to personal preference.

Well, i hear that hte DB900 and the DB659 cut through the mix real well, and sound real smooth and sweet. Does the U5 have the same cutting, smoothness, and sweetness?

I think "cutting through" the mix in recording situations has more to do with the type of bass and the type of player used.

Ok that was a bad choice in words. What i meant was that i'm looking for a DI that has a full sound. It doesn't sound weak and transparent.

I would personally choose the Avalon. Why? Don't know Cause I have nothing but good experience with them. Smooth, fat but "unaltered" sound.

It's just my personal preference.
