It's got the capability for point-N-shoot, which is good as I really don't have much experience in recording live on my own. I also haven't had much of a chance to get a feed from the board, which was why I originally picked it up...for 4-channel recording. But based on the 2 mics up front, I think it sounds really good. |

I was thinking of getting the Tascam DP-004 (a little cheaper) but it appears the H4n has a lot going for it and may give more for the money.

The ONLY thing that I would like that no one seems to have is a remote control, so I can start and stop it from the stage.

The remote control option is what's going to make me switch to the "N" model. They really cleaned up the interface, too. VERY tough to beat for the money given all the improvements.

Still, though I haven't heard this is a problem, the headphone jack went out on mine. (I happily got a replacement under warranty, but it was a bit of a hassle)
Just a thought. |

| | | | I didn't think I'd really be using it for this, but I love the amp models in MTR mode for practice purposes. The SVT model sounds particularly good on bass, with the RackComp effect on. It's amazing how many parameters they let you tweak too. |

Sound is great even for a recording noob like me (have to turn the recording level down for gigs). The remote control is very nice -- I can set it up out of the way of anyone at a gig and still be able to start/stop recording without having to get up to the unit. But as it is a wired remote, I can't access it from the stage -- I just start and stop between sets.
Cons:
The mics have no protection. My drummer dropped mine and it landed on the mics. Didn't really hurt it but one of the mics is slightly looser when rotating between 90 and 120 degrees. Don't drop it!!!
